August 4, 2010
This seems to be the summer of pushing beyond my tried and true creative methods: I have been processing photographic work for my fine art sales and my commercial work, working on two films and pitching/securing homes for writing projects. It's awesome, just busy and tiring. Also, leaving for Alaska shortly to work on three writing projects and one film project - check in on my blog at airstreamnomad.blogspot.com. I will have updates and images of what's going on. Until then, happy August.

Seems like winter is happening all over again! Got a chance to get out into the lovely Southern California backcountry yesterday with an awesome ski off Anderson Peak down the Forsee Creek drainage. Amazing! But back to work it is working on finalizing and mailing off three pitches. Just finished writing content and producing images for two revamped websites
www.InnatSilverCreek.com and www.LagonitaLodge.com. Love working in the tourism sector! Still blogging but look for more publication information soon!

Spring! Well, maybe tomorrow but spring is here. I celebrated by taking my mountain bike out for a spin. Admittedly it is a bit early for trails but the roads are good for conditioning. It's been a long, busy and prosperous winter which is always good and usually the norm. But now is my time to reconnect with those projects that have been hibernating through the winter. That said, I am working on numerous pitches - some timely, some adventurous, some business-minded & some just for fun - plus shopping my documentary idea around. Also, remaining focused on a couple very interesting corporate communication projects. And I have a new piece out this month in Management & Operations magazine. To view online, open this
link. in a new window and flip to page 8. Happy Spring!

December 3, 2009
Doesn't seem possible this year is coming to a close. While I thought for sure 2009 would prove to be challenging from a business standpoint that was not my reality. My writing and communication services have seen an increase of 40%. Important to note: The additional work is for online and non-traditional media outlets. I am also blogging regularly at
www.BigBearLake.com and working on a new blog where I will be providing fresh content weekly - more on this later. I am also fortunate to find time to work on freelance journalistic pieces including a documentary project and the final layout of my book. All and all, life is good.

March 30, 2009
Just returned from San Diego after four days enjoying the simplicity of flip flops and tank tops. (Read about it at
www.airstreamnomad.blogspot.com.) Staying busy with a few pitches I am shopping around, a TV show/production idea I am beginning to formulate, working with and copywriting for two interesting clients and getting ready to teach a three-part writing workshop for The Writers' Gallery (see, www.thewritersgallery.net). I am very excited about the workshops and look forward to meeting fellow writers and sharing ideas.

February 20, 2009
Hi all! Have been super busy working - finishing up content for Gold Mountain Manor (now reviewing the beta site), reviewing layout on The Book, writing for a new client The Alderwood Group and pitching. Other than these items, the current issue of Telemark Skier features one of my images from Kamchatka in the 'Caught in the Act' section. Check it out: The magazine is on news stands through the end of February. I am blogging regularly at
www.bigbearlake.com and www.nomadicyogini.blogspot.com. Will have some other news in the coming weeks... Until then, best wishes.

November 20, 2008
Almost Thanksgiving and it is still warm up here in the mountains. In fact I blogged about this at
www.bigbearlake.com under the pen name 'Glade Girl.' Check it out. I will be blogging through the winter season: I'll tell it like a local and feel free to post a comment too. Have a look at the next issue of Telemark Skier and their 'Caught in the Act' section. I have an image from our Kamchatka Ski Exploration expedition. If you like it and you want to see more, we are giving a multimedia presentation December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at Nottinghams Tavern in Big Bear Lake. It should be a good crowd and a good time. I am just finishing my work with Gold Mountain Manor - a unique bed and breakfast. I am rewriting their web content and it should be up by the end of January with the launch of their new site. Working on my book - finally! The book has been on haitus for a year now - so back at it. Also, working on and shopping a few stories around. Will have more on this later. In the meantime, have a great Holiday!

October 7, 2008
Couple of things out this month: Pick up Backcountry magazine for a piece on our Russian ski exploration and find a copy of Big Bear Magazine (or click on
http://bigbearmagazine.com/coldcomfort.html) for my take on cold weather comfort foods and recipes. I have a project in the works for a new client - helping them re-write their web content. It is a really cool client and I will point you in that direction when it is complete. Also, sorting and processing images for a multi-media presentation in Yosemite Valley we have in November and printing images for a Gallery where I show some of my work. It's good - if I am printing that means I am selling. Otherwise, getting in shape for ski season - riding the mountain bike as much as possible and starting to trail run again. Ugh - the pain!

September 6, 2008
I am very excited to announce my piece on the Kamchatka Pennisula will appear in the October 2008 issue of Backcountry magazine. Get your copy at newstands or visit
www.backcountrymagazine.com. There are few images accompanying the article but you may also view a brief slide show at www.summit-photography.com/slideshow.html. Or - we will be presenting our Kamchatka Ski Exploration at this year's Tri-Advisory scheduled for November 1 and 2 in Yosemite National Park. Look for my work in the lates issue of Big Bear Magazine. It's an article on cold weather comfort foods and it has some terrific recipes from some of my favorite people. August turned out to be a terrific month for fine art photography - I sold two images and my partner sold six. It just emphasizes the need to get out there and - as my favorite photographer Dennis Keeley says - make pictures. Also, I wanted to mention that I spent a day with Suzie Lerma, owner of Sol Foods in Big Bear Lake, and learned about the produce co-op she offers customers looking to purchase locally grown and organic fruits and vegetables. Check my blog www.airstreamnomad.blogspot.com for photos and my thoughts. Finally, I am working on a couple items to pitch to NPR and other print publications. Until next time - Cheers!

July 7, 2008
Let summer begin! So far it has been off to a terrific start. My piece on an Irkutsk, Russia-based Rotary Chapter and their efforts to build a sustainable eco-economy appeared in the July 2008 issue of The Rotarian. (View it online at:
http://www.rotary.org/en/MediaAndNews/TheRotarian/Pages/Siberia.aspx.) I am also at work on a ski story for Backcountry magazine. This discusses our epic ski exploration of the Mount Bakening volcanic area on the Kamchatka Peninsula. I should also mention we are collaborating with Nalychevo Nature Park to consult with them on developing the backcountry ski industry in their territory and expect to travel back to Russia in the early part of next year. And we just inked a slide presentation of our Russian Ski Exploration at November 2008's Tri-Advisory (the National Ski Patrol Far West Division's yearly meeting in Yosemite Valley). This past weekend we exhibited our fine art photography at the 3rd Annual Pine Knot Art Walk. Check out our work at www.summit-photography.com. It's been busy! Other than these few things I am hard at work on a couple of stories tagged for fall and winter publication and working for a few very interesting copywriting clients.

June 2, 2008
Greetings! A guick note to promote my new blog - check it out: http://www.nomadicyogini.blogspot.com/. It's about the lessons we learn on and off the mat. We have settled back into life at home and are turning our efforts toward creative endeavours. My piece in the Rotarian will publish in the July 2008 issue. A great article about some amazing Russians working to promote a sustainable way of life and making a lasting impression on the next generation. Also, next time I hope to have news on some backcountry skiing and adventure writings in the works. As to images - I have been out shooting a bit. I am working on getting my photographs together from Death Valley and the Alabama Hills and will show these and others at the upcoming Art Walk in Big Bear Lakes scheduled for July 4th weekend.

May 9, 2008
It has been one week since our return from Russia and I spent it frantically gathering my thoughts, reviewing hundreds of photographs and listening to hours of audio. For the next few days I will continue to cull my images and put together a submission for use in connection with planned editorial. (Exact details on this will be posted later this month.) Reviewing images has always been the hardest - my words flow with ease but looking at my own images becomes a struggle. My tendency is to over edit and over analyze each. Not to mention, my photos are this window into the inner workings of the way I think. Worse, I begin to feel naked and vulnerable - ugh! That said, life is amazing! Things are good. We were indeed able to capture the essence of our trip to Kamchatka, the backcountry skiing scene and the people. I will be putting together a press release in the next couple of weeks with information about a multi-media presentation of our expedition. Look for it on
www.summit-photography.com. And, I will continue to blog at www.airstreamnomad.blogspot.com.

March 31, 2008
It has been a great winter and some excellent opportunities have come about. We (myself and my partner Scott Cordner) received a ski exploration grant from the Hans Saari Memorial Fund for our expedition to the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East. As part of this grant we will be documenting our expedition via images, sound and words. We have also pre-sold some articles and photos and will update everyone with publications and dates upon our return. Things will be hectic then with writing, sorting through images, meeting deadlines and getting ready for a few scheduled presentations. Not complaining - this is all by design! Please visit our blog:
www.airstreamnomad.blogspot.com and leave comments if you have questions or like what you see.

January 27, 2008
Happy New Year! It looks like 2008 is shaping up to a good year. Our expedition to the Kamchatka Pennisula is on - might even hitch a ride on a Japanese Cruise Ship: Exchanging work - a few slide shows for the passengers - for a ride across the Sea of Japan...more on this later. As for writing: My piece for The Rotarian is set to publish in their May issue.  A big thanks to the Rotary Club of Irkutsk Baikal Eco Centennial chapter - they are amazing and it was fun to write about their partnership with the Great Baikal Trail. Still working for my new client - developing content for their high-tech products at the moment, and looking to place a few articles I have been working on.

November 2007
Not sure where to begin. It has been a hectic fall and I have news to mention. While writing for various clients, the last two months have been more about photography. I an very excited to annouce three of my images willl be exhibited in the new USC Medical Center near downtown LA.  The Center is set to open in 2008. Also, my book is finished and I am just finalizing various items before it goes to print. I have a new client and I am providing some inventive web content for their new venture - more on this later. Of course, ski season is here which means I will be spending more time than I should on the slopes. Before you judge, I have a very good reason: It looks like I will be heading back to Siberia for some backcountry skiing on the Kamchatka Pennisula. This trip is in the initial planning stages but details should be firmed up by January.  What drives me to go here? First, the people - their love and commitment for their earth.  Secondly, the culture and the purity of an eco-tour experience.  Eco-tourism provides a sustainable economy and is one way the government is able to finance preservation - protecting the Grizzly bears, the landscape - there are more than 100 volcanoes on the Pennisula - and hundreds of endemic species of plants and animals.

August 6, 2007
Finally, a chance to update my website. The Newest News: My cultural tourism piece published in the Las Vegas Review Journal's CERCA Travel Section on June 24, 2007. I will have it posted on my site soon, in the meantime take a look::
http://www.lvrj.com/living/8153937.html. Also, I am writing for a new client and developing some very interesting travel pieces featuring the Grand Canyon. An innovative client - I am looking forward to seeing the finished project. The Mountain Biking Guide Book is coming along - I have 3/4's of it written and a publisher picked out, but the blog has been shelved until September. Aside from this work, I am attending the Outdoor Retailer's Show in Salt Lake City and checking out all the new gear sleighted for spring.

June 14, 2007
It's been crazy here - super busy.  I sat down with artist and author Sean Starr today to discuss his upcoming project. On July 4th he is leaving Southern California for a 3 month circumnavigation of the US on his 1982 Kawasaki motorcycle.  Why? Call it research for his forthcoming book The Truth About American Culture.  He told me he is pretty opinionated on the subject but wants to learn the average citizen's perspective and include it in the book too.  You can follow along, listen to audio, donate gas money or just weigh in at his website
www.whereisseanstarr.com.  Also, my friend Karen Mehringer just released her new book Sail into your Dreams: 8 Steps to Living a More Purposeful Life.  It's insightful and inspiring - buy it on Amazon.com.  I have a number of things in the works including developing a blog - should have this set by the end of July.  I admit I am a little behind on my Mountain Biking Guide Book - I was way too ambitious.  That said, still shooting for a Summer 07 release.

April 20, 2007
April has shaped up to be a busy month.  I have an exciting and innovative new client - check them out at Windowbox.com, as well as assisting our friend at the Art of Nature Gallery in Big Bear Lake.  (If you get a chance, stop by - Tim just returned from Antartica and has some amazing images of the landscape and inhabitants.)  Also, I have a cultural tourism piece set to pubish at the end of May in the Las Vegas Review Journal.  Interviewing various artists and artisans for this article has inspired me to start working on my own photographic portfolio, and as a result I will be exhibiting this summer at a few fine art shows in Southern California.  If nothing else, it is awesome to be shooting again.  And finally, I have made the time to begin work on two books - the first will be a tight turnaround and I hope to have it published by mid-summer, the second by the end of the year.

March 26, 2007
Just returned from a fabulous tour of Washington state's ski areas - a bit of a 'Busman's Holiday.'  Five straight days of thigh deep powder - in-bounds and out-of-bounds.  We arrived at Crystal just as Silver Basin opened and were among the first riders to make the trek past The Throne to the top of Silver King that afternoon.  The next day we explored the Northern boundary of the area with Andrew from patrol.  The best - Right Angle into the Niagaras.  Nice trees, thanks Andrew!  The Stevens Pass patrol crew set us up with Raul - a fire fighter from Seattle - he showed us some steep pitches a short hike past the 'Power Line.'  The last stop was Mount Baker for two days.  Each morning we woke up to a foot of fresh snow with showers continuing throughout the afternoon.  Now it's back to work with a focus on a couple stories related to obesity and a new approach to dieting, and a rework of my Siberia piece.

February 11, 2007
Ready, set, launch.  I am excited to finally have my site together (thanks Ben at
www.villagedomain.com) and published to the web, and I am anxious to get to work on new projects.  I just finished one of the best copywriting projects to date - the 2007 Mammoth Lakes Vacation Planner for the Mammoth Lakes Conventions & Visitors Bureau.  (Order one at www.visitmammoth.com.)  Currently, I am hard at work on several articles pertaining to health, fitness and travel, as well as teaching yoga in Marina Del Rey and Big Bear Lake.
