It has been one week since our return from Russia and I spent it frantically gathering my thoughts, reviewing hundreds of photographs and listening to hours of audio. For the next few days I will continue to cull my images and put together a submission for use in connection with planned editorial. (Exact details on this will be posted later this month.) Reviewing images has always been the hardest - my words flow with ease but looking at my own images becomes a struggle. My tendency is to over edit and over analyze each. Not to mention, my photos are this window into the inner workings of the way I think. Worse, I begin to feel naked and vulnerable - ugh! That said, life is amazing! Things are good. We were indeed able to capture the essence of our trip to Kamchatka, the backcountry skiing scene and the people. I will be putting together a press release in the next couple of weeks with information about a multi-media presentation of our expedition. Look for it on www.summit-photography.com. And, I will continue to blog at www.airstreamnomad.blogspot.com.

It has been a great winter and some excellent opportunities have come about. We (myself and my partner Scott Cordner) received a ski exploration grant from the Hans Saari Memorial Fund for our expedition to the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East. As part of this grant we will be documenting our expedition via images, sound and words. We have also pre-sold some articles and photos and will update everyone with publications and dates upon our return. Things will be hectic then with writing, sorting through images, meeting deadlines and getting ready for a few scheduled presentations. Not complaining - this is all by design! Please visit our blog: www.airstreamnomad.blogspot.com and leave comments if you have questions or like what you see.

Happy New Year! It looks like 2008 is shaping up to a good year. Our expedition to the Kamchatka Pennisula is on - might even hitch a ride on a Japanese Cruise Ship: Exchanging work - a few slide shows for the passengers - for a ride across the Sea of Japan...more on this later. As for writing: My piece for The Rotarian is set to publish in their May issue. A big thanks to the Rotary Club of Irkutsk Baikal Eco Centennial chapter - they are amazing and it was fun to write about their partnership with the Great Baikal Trail. Still working for my new client - developing content for their high-tech products at the moment, and looking to place a few articles I have been working on.
November 2007
Not sure where to begin. It has been a hectic fall and I have news to mention. While writing for various clients, the last two months have been more about photography. I an very excited to annouce three of my images willl be exhibited in the new USC Medical Center near downtown LA. The Center is set to open in 2008. Also, my book is finished and I am just finalizing various items before it goes to print. I have a new client and I am providing some inventive web content for their new venture - more on this later. Of course, ski season is here which means I will be spending more time than I should on the slopes. Before you judge, I have a very good reason: It looks like I will be heading back to Siberia for some backcountry skiing on the Kamchatka Pennisula. This trip is in the initial planning stages but details should be firmed up by January. What drives me to go here? First, the people - their love and commitment for their earth. Secondly, the culture and the purity of an eco-tour experience. Eco-tourism provides a sustainable economy and is one way the government is able to finance preservation - protecting the Grizzly bears, the landscape - there are more than 100 volcanoes on the Pennisula - and hundreds of endemic species of plants and animals.

Finally, a chance to update my website. The Newest News: My cultural tourism piece published in the Las Vegas Review Journal's CERCA Travel Section on June 24, 2007. I will have it posted on my site soon, in the meantime take a look:: http://www.lvrj.com/living/8153937.html. Also, I am writing for a new client and developing some very interesting travel pieces featuring the Grand Canyon. An innovative client - I am looking forward to seeing the finished project. The Mountain Biking Guide Book is coming along - I have 3/4's of it written and a publisher picked out, but the blog has been shelved until September. Aside from this work, I am attending the Outdoor Retailer's Show in Salt Lake City and checking out all the new gear sleighted for spring.

It's been crazy here - super busy. I sat down with artist and author Sean Starr today to discuss his upcoming project. On July 4th he is leaving Southern California for a 3 month circumnavigation of the US on his 1982 Kawasaki motorcycle. Why? Call it research for his forthcoming book The Truth About American Culture. He told me he is pretty opinionated on the subject but wants to learn the average citizen's perspective and include it in the book too. You can follow along, listen to audio, donate gas money or just weigh in at his website www.whereisseanstarr.com. Also, my friend Karen Mehringer just released her new book Sail into your Dreams: 8 Steps to Living a More Purposeful Life. It's insightful and inspiring - buy it on Amazon.com. I have a number of things in the works including developing a blog - should have this set by the end of July. I admit I am a little behind on my Mountain Biking Guide Book - I was way too ambitious. That said, still shooting for a Summer 07 release.
April 20, 2007
April has shaped up to be a busy month. I have an exciting and innovative new client - check them out at Windowbox.com, as well as assisting our friend at the Art of Nature Gallery in Big Bear Lake. (If you get a chance, stop by - Tim just returned from Antartica and has some amazing images of the landscape and inhabitants.) Also, I have a cultural tourism piece set to pubish at the end of May in the Las Vegas Review Journal. Interviewing various artists and artisans for this article has inspired me to start working on my own photographic portfolio, and as a result I will be exhibiting this summer at a few fine art shows in Southern California. If nothing else, it is awesome to be shooting again. And finally, I have made the time to begin work on two books - the first will be a tight turnaround and I hope to have it published by mid-summer, the second by the end of the year.

Just returned from a fabulous tour of Washington state's ski areas - a bit of a 'Busman's Holiday.' Five straight days of thigh deep powder - in-bounds and out-of-bounds. We arrived at Crystal just as Silver Basin opened and were among the first riders to make the trek past The Throne to the top of Silver King that afternoon. The next day we explored the Northern boundary of the area with Andrew from patrol. The best - Right Angle into the Niagaras. Nice trees, thanks Andrew! The Stevens Pass patrol crew set us up with Raul - a fire fighter from Seattle - he showed us some steep pitches a short hike past the 'Power Line.' The last stop was Mount Baker for two days. Each morning we woke up to a foot of fresh snow with showers continuing throughout the afternoon. Now it's back to work with a focus on a couple stories related to obesity and a new approach to dieting, and a rework of my Siberia piece.

Ready, set, launch. I am excited to finally have my site together (thanks Ben at www.villagedomain.com) and published to the web, and I am anxious to get to work on new projects. I just finished one of the best copywriting projects to date - the 2007 Mammoth Lakes Vacation Planner for the Mammoth Lakes Conventions & Visitors Bureau. (Order one at www.visitmammoth.com.) Currently, I am hard at work on several articles pertaining to health, fitness and travel, as well as teaching yoga in Marina Del Rey and Big Bear Lake.
